“The Dog Days of Summer”
Project KITT (K-9’s Involved in Targeting Terrorism)
Organized by Lisa Boet of Bamboo Café, Alan & Sharon Kalfus & Linda Tanner
Setting a patriotic mood for Flag Day -- June 14, 2011, Bamboo Café hosted a canine companion dinner to celebrate Military Working Dogs and benefit Project KITT (K-9’s Involved in Targeting Terrorism). The first event in “The Dog Days of Summer” series, the “Patriotic Puppy” dinner helped raise awareness and more than $500.00 for Project KITT, which assists US Military Working Dog (MWD) Teams deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa and other areas of the world fighting terrorism. Many well-behaved dogs attended the event and wore red, white & blue. For Footed Friends donated generous hostess gifts as well as prizes for the top two most patriotic dog costumes.
Project KITT Founder, Alan Kalfus says: "This is a unique opportunity to get needed equipment directly to Military Working Dog handlers who work with patrol, explosive and mine detector dogs." If you weren’t able to attend, donations may be made out to "Project KITT" and mailed to 3238 Cohutta St., Port St. Lucie, FL 34953-4646. 100% of the money is used to purchase and ship needed supplies for Military Working Dogs. See www.westforkdogtraining.com for more information.
Dog handlers have requested 30-foot nylon leads, collars, dog goggles (“Doggles”), Kongs, dog treats, dog booties, “doggie wipes” and tennis balls. Handlers of explosive and mine-detecting dogs in Afghanistan also requested wire-shaft marker flags, both red and white, with which to mark danger areas as well as safe areas.
Thank you for your participation! Please enjoy our slide show and feel free to forward it to your friends.
